Notes |
- Lydia was an epileptic and had to be watched carefully. My grandfather
, E.
Perry CRANDALL, in a letter sent to a TAYLOR relative, wrote that this
condition stemmed from her mother, Harriet Amanda (Coon) Taylor, being c
hased
by a bull while blueberrying and having to jump over a fence, while pre
gnant
with Lydia. (Modern medicine would refute such a reason for epilepsy!!
)
After her mother died, Lydia had to be cared for by members of the fami
ly. My
grandfather didn't want to do that with three young children, so John E
lmer
TAYLOR (Lydia's brother) and his wife took her "under duress". They a
ctually
locked her up and fed her gruel, and didn't allow her any visitors, esp
ecially
my grandmother, Maud L. TAYLOR, her niece.
NOTE: copies of some letters Lydia wrote and "smuggled" to her niece, M
aud,
are in the possession of EPC, Catskill, NY.
