Notes - Saloma Bollinger Swing
Mrs. Saloma Swing died at the residence of her son Joseph Swing in this c
ity Wednesday, January 7, aged 77 years, 4 months and 10 days. Saloma B
ollinger was born in Switzerland September 22, 1822. She came to Americ
a with her parents in the spring of 1849. The family first located at A
kron, Ohio. She was united in marriage to Carl Swing in 1851 at Akron a
d 24 years of her life were spent at that place. Five boys were born t
o them, three of whom are living: Henry Swing, at Lamar, Missouri; Albe
t at Cissna Park, Ill.; and Joseph the youngest at Fairbury. On first c
oming to Illinois the familiy located near Chatsworth where they lived f
or five years. It was in that place that she lost her husband, Mr. Swin
g dying August 10, 1889 [sic].
The family came to Fairbury in 1888 and she has since made her home in t
his city. She was a kind and affectionate mother and a loving wife. She w
as for many years a member of the German Apostolic Church and died in t
hat faith. Besides her three children she leaves two brothers and many f
iends to mourn her death.
The funeral services will be held this afternoon in the German Apostoli
c Church of this city, and the remains will be laid to rest in the Fair
bury cemetery.
