      Charles Bauer died Friday evening at 9:45 in his home where he lived wi
      th his daughter Laura. Mr. Bauer was one of our oldest citizens and has b
      een poorly for a number of years. He was 91 years and 22 days old.

      The body was taken to Knapp Funeral Home and later to the son's residen
      ce in the country. Funeral services were held there Monday afternoon at 1
      :30 and later at the apostolic Christian Church with Rev. Emanual Gudem
      an and Rev. Ezra Feller officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

      Charles Bauer was born in Alsace Lorraine September 13, 1865, the son o
      f Peter and Katherine Sackenreiter Bauer. At the age of 22 he came to t
      his country and lived for two years at Gridley, Ill., and then came to o
      ur community and established a home on a farm in Fountain Creek townshi
      p. He was married in 1896 to Lavina Guingrich of Pulaski, Iowa, who die
      d in 1906. In March of 1908 he was married to Anna Alt whose death was o
      Dec. 22, 1943. Three children were born to this last union and are su
      viving: Joe on the home place, Laura here in Cissna Park and Mrs. Elme
      (Verna) Roth of Fairbury and a foster daughter, Mrs. Harold (Vila) Hi
      es, Normal, Ill. and nine grandchildren; one brother, Peter, and one s
      ister, Ernestine Bauer, both of this community.
