This memorial for Effie I. Sholtz will ever be a reminder of one whose l
ife was of highest Christian character, and of a faithful servant in ch
urch work.
She was born April 10, 1874, at North Loup, Neb. She became a Christian w
hile young in life, being baptized when about thirteen years of age and j
oining the Long Branch Church at Humboldt, Neb. Later her membership wa
s changed to the church at Grand Junction, Iowa, when the family moved t
o that place. In 1905, she moved to Nortonville, Kan., and joined there
. The last twelve years of her life she was a member of this (Verona) c
hurch. During almost the entire length of that time she taught a Sabbat
h school class, whose members grew from junior age to young people duri
g the time of her teaching. Always interested in the welfare of the ch
urch, she never shirked her duty and many were the ways she assisted.
Hers was a life of cheerfulness and energy; always looking on the brigh
t side of life, she made life happy for those about her. And she, herse
lf, was never happier than when busy at something. The fact that she wa
s a mother of
six children, all of whom are members of this church, reflects her stro
g Christian character. It is hoped that impressions made by her kind, s
weet influence will be passed down through the future of this church by t
he lives of these children, and her grandchildren, which number ten.
Remembrances of a pure life like hers may prove a valuable incentive to i
creased faithfulness, encourage hope in the hour of depression, and gi
ve fresh inspiration in Christian life.
Joseph and Effie were married Aug 10, 1898 in Des Moines, Polk County, I
