- Find-a-Grave: Edwin Henry Burdick was born July 28, 1894, in Boulder, C
olo. the son of Orville Grant Burdick and Martha Lucetta Davis Burdick; a
d passed to rest with our Lord on December 26, 1985, at Westland Manor i
Lakewood.
Ed was a long-time and faithful member of the Denver Seventh Day Baptis
t Church, driving with his wife, Elsie, each Sabbath Day to worship unt
il he was 90 years of age. Ed accepted Jesus as His Lord and Savior man
y years ago and was baptized with his son, Edwin Brownell Burdick. He m
aintained a real interest in this church and its ministries.
Ed grew up in North Loup, Nebr., where he was active in the Seventh Day B
aptist Church there. He had a barber shop for several years in North Lo
up and later relocated to Arvada, where he was a barber most of his lif
e.
On August 6, 1918, he was married to Alice Elizabeth Tatlow of Neb., th
e wedding being held in the North Loup SDB Church. To this union was bo
one son, Edwin Brownell. In the last few years of her life, Alice wa
s an invalid and it was Ed who gently and tenderly took care of her in t
heir home. Alice died in 1963.
On April 9, 1964, Ed was married to Elsie Green Thorngate. They have sh
ared over 21 good years together and enjoyed the opportunities of servi
ce in the Church together, along with their various trips across the co
untry and around the state. Ed loved to drive his car.
Ed lived his faith. He was a man of high standards with a great code of p
ersonal ethics. When we think of his life of over 91 years we think of t
he words of the prophet Micah: "He hath showed thee, O man, what is goo
d; and what doth the Lord requir of thee, but to do justly and to love m
ercy, and to walk humbly with thy God." Those of us who knew and loved E
d, know these words to epitomize his life.
Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Alice; three sisters, Nettie (2 y
old) and Viola (16 yr old) and Grace Eola White (Mrs. Robert R. White
) of Denver, Colo. He is survived by his wife, Elsie; one son, Ed "Brow
" Burdick and his wife Marlene; three grandchildren: Susan Colbert, Li
da Stratton and Edwin Ronald "Ron" Burdick (all living in the Denver, C
olo. area) and 5 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by 3 step-chi
ldren: Mary Wolfkiel, Gerry Van Dyke and Gordon Thorngate, 10 step-gran
dchildren and 21 step-great-grandchildren and a host of friends.
...
We come today rejoicing in our sorrow, smiling through our tears of sep
aration, because once again we realize the love and mercy of our Lord. W
e realize, as did Ed, that because Jesus lives so shall we also live fo
ever in his eternal kingdom. ..."
